Champian FultonThe Jazz Series is pleased to welcome back vocalist/pianist Champian who, after five seasons, returns with her trio. Born in Oklahoma, and already a globe-trotting veteran at 35, she is considered one of the most gifted pure Jazz musicians of her generation. She grew up with music in her home; her mother and father (Jazz trumpeter and educator Stephen Fulton) recognized her fascination with music at an early age. The presence of her father’s musician friends, including the likes of Clark Terry and Major Holley, inspired her focus on jazz. Her first paid musical engagement with her own band - when she was all of 10 years old - was performing at Terry’s 75th Birthday Party. Since then, her piano and voice skills have been recognized by peers and critics as distinctive and sophisticated, captivating audiences in her adopted home town - New York - in the city's finest Jazz rooms, and in concert halls across the country and around the world. |
