The National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Masters Matching Grant

Dear Jazz Series Supporter:

The 2008/2009 season provides us with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity – something special and unique – something we at the Jazz Series are tremendously proud of. This season our “Annual Campaign” zooms in on support for a major concert & educational event – one where the National Endowment for the Arts will match your Jazz Series support – dollar-for-dollar – up to $30,000.

This season, as a result of the JAZZ SERIES BEING NAMED AS ONE OF ONLY 12 RECIPIENTS IN THE ENTIRE COUNTRY OF THE PRESTIGIOUS NEA JAZZ MASTERS LIVE INITIATIVE MATCHING GRANT, we will offer one of our most ambitious presentations since our 1995 inception: A performance that takes place Wednesday, February 18, 2009, at the Missouri Theatre Center for the Arts. The full-length concert incorporates our first-ever commission, a world premiere conducted by the composer and performed by one of the world’s best big bands. (Learn More about the more about the magnificent NEA Jazz Masters Live Program).

We are pleased to feature an exclusive engagement by the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, the New York-based, Grammy-nominated ensemble that will share the stage with two distinguished NEA Jazz Masters: BOB BROOKMEYER, the great native Kansas City composer and arranger who returns to his native Missouri to conduct the orchestra, and Dan Morgenstern, the world renowned historian and Director of the Jazz Institute who will serve as guest Emcee and Host.

What a glorious and rare opportunity to help the Jazz Series reach its intended goal and insure that all of us share in a grand success of this important artistic endeavor and recognition for the entire Central Missouri Community. We are pleased to offer a number of “Giving Levels” and accompanying “Thank You Premiums” and recognition to those who contribute. Each allows you to take part in AND attend what promises to be an extraordinary night of music.

We ask you to please review the special pledge form and select the tax-deductible level of support that best suits you. Help us meet the NEA Jazz Masters Live-Jazz Series Challenge Match. Your gift will have tremendous impact. Remember, when you make a pledge toward the NEA Challenge Match your gift goes twice as far. Again – and on behalf of the Jazz Series board of directors, staff and volunteers – thank you for your generous gift.

(*Contributions are tax-deductible to the extent of the law permits.)
