Every so often the Jazz Series mentions its “short list” – an evolving, informal group of artists and ensembles that, for one reason or another, simply have not participated previously. We’re pleased to say, drummer Jeff Hamilton, in this, Season #24, is no longer on the list.
  With Hamilton, the words “consummate professional” come to mind; so does “versatile” and “smooth” – the latter in the best sense of the word. Consider his jazz trail the past four decades has seen him work, not necessarily in chronological order, with: Ella Fitzgerald, Rosemary Clooney,  Count Basie Orchestra, Oscar Peterson, Monty Alexander and Ray Brown. Like we did,  Diana Krall sought after him to have him tour and record with her; she eventually succeeded; Hamilton works on several of her recordings and globe-trotted with her as well. Currently, the drummer, with his long-time cohort and colleague, bassist John Clayton, co-leads the Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra.
