The piano trio is one of the “primary numbers” in the world of Jazz. Historically, there have been thousands if not tens of thousands of piano-bass-drums combinations that have graced the stage.
We’re pleased to have the opportunity to present pianist Tamir Hendelman in just such a setting as he makes his first Jazz Series appearance. A mainstay within drummer Jeff Hamilton’s Trio, Hendekman also serves as Barbra Streisand’s musical director. These two high-profile gigs give him more than enough credentials in a supporting role, however it’s his work as a leader that allows him to shine most brightly. Stylistically, we’re talking “in the pocket” – shades of Oscar Peterson, shades of Peterson’s protege, Benny Green. Among the most melifluous and lyrical pianists on the scene, Hendelman and bassist Alex Frank and drummer Dean Koba are a perfect fit for the conversion of MU's Stotler Lounge to "Cabaret Stotler."

"Hendelman's playing is firmly in the tradition of Peterson and Green, particularly in regard to its strength and swing, but his touch and use of dynamics... displayed an individual dimension of his talent that warrants greater exposure."

- Jazz Times

"His playing... was so sensitive, introspective and captivating, that you could literally hear a pin drop in an audience of some 500 people."

- LA Jazz Scene
